You know as well as I just how much hype there is surrounding the perils and potential of AI. However, if you sift through the avalanche of adjectives surrounding this bright shiny tech object, you’ll discover one solid truth that can help you avoid the former and maximize the latter:
Successfully embracing and utilizing AI requires only that you keep doing what you’re doing:
which is to say, Do Information Right™.
This truth stems from the fact that all of the many flavors of AI basically work the same way: you feed them a body of information, they analyze it, and then they work their magic by:
- Generating new content,
- Drawing some sort of conclusion (e.g., a medical diagnosis), or
- Recommending a strategy or action (e.g., a marketing angle).
How effective this magic is – and thus how much value AI can and will provide – depends entirely upon how good the information is that’s fed into it. Long-time IT-ers will remember the old saw “Garbage In, Garbage Out,” and it’s as true today as it ever was.
Avoiding this pitfall, of course, is where you come in.
You Are Foundational to AI Success
You are already dedicated to making information more findable, accurate, secure, and compliant as you do your records and records-related work. From here – well, I was going to say it’s a short jump, but it’s in fact no jump at all to laying the foundation for any AI implementation your organization may be undertaking or contemplating.
Because when you come right down to it, you are probably the single best qualified person in your entire organization to “de-garbage” your information and get on with making AI hay.
All you have to do is to keep doing you.
